Finally, A Date

Wes finally got his leave date yesterday. He goes on November 3 and his job will be F15 Avionics. I am so glad he will not be in San Antonio in the summer. He wouldn't mind, but I just can't stand that kind of heat!! A couple of weeks ago, the local recruiters got together and had a big send-off party for all the new recruits who would be leaving over the next few months. All the branches were there and the recruits were introduced. A bunch of local business donated stuff for gift packs for the kids and prizes. Wes won the privilege of throwing out the first pitch at the local frontier league baseball game by beaning his recruiter with a ball during one of the games. It poured rain that day, so some of the games didn't get off the ground. Too bad. They had rented a dunk tank and the moms and grandmas were going to try to dunk the recruiters. I would have really enjoyed that. :)

So, now I have a countdown.

Now Wes can really concentrate on getting himself ready for basic. I don’t know if you have looked at it yet but I have posted some things in the BMT group that might help you and Wes. His date means you will miss him for the holidays. But, like me, you likely were expecting that anyway...We are in the final countdown for Rob now. He leaves Monday afternoon, 4 days left. He is so excited. We had a big "goodbye party" with friends last week, had flags all over, etc., and we'll have a small family dinner Sun with grandparents. I just realized that, with all our schedules, tonight will be the last night we have dinner, just our immediate family, at our home. Of course, I'll run to the store for his special requests!! .... I'm feeling sad about his leaving, but seeing his excitement and happiness over this choice helps me deal it. And that will help you.

I'm so...relieved i guess, that he doesn't leave until Nov. I told him that that was still way to soon but that's a lot better than I expected. I'm sorry you didn't get to dunk...Graves is it? Anyway, from what I hear that was fun day anyway. I guess we can all relax a little now though. ttyl ~Rachel
