Hi, Michael. I'm guessing you are a good friend (or more) of Stephanie. It will be very interesting hearing your experience as one of those "left behind" and how it affects you and, in turn, Stephanie. When one person joins, everyone joins!
Michael, what that means is that when you go to the members page you can see her profile picture is at the top of the page and you can click on it to go to her page. It just makes it easier to find. It does not mean too much right now but when we get more members it will be easier to go to the page of who ever is featured. It is a feature that the web builder has on their sites. I hope you where not worried about it. I just wanted to feature her because she just left for basic. I hope this answered your question.
Michael, I would like to tell you that the time is going to fly by, and it just may, but it has been my experience, having been on both sides of this fence, that the time will fly by for Stephanie more than it will for you. I am sorry but I want to be as honest as I can for you. Now like I said there is a possibility that it will go by fast for you I just found in my case, as a parent, that it took for ever. For Stephanie the time will go by faster because they will have her very busy the whole time she is there. I have been through this with both of my boys, one in the Air Force and one in the Navy. But look you can fill in the time and help time move along. I tell everyone who has a loved one in basic or boot camp to write letters everyday that the mail runs. Once you get her address start writing everyday. Mail call is very important to a new recruit. It is their life line to the real world. Stephanie needs your letters. Make sure they are positive; she will need that because of what she is going through. Basic can be difficult and she will need encouragement. Please don’t be too concerned if her letters to you sound as if she is discouraged. This is to be expected. Maybe she will not be discouraged by the experience but it is good to be prepared for that on your part. She will need to hear how proud you are of her and that she can do what needs to be done. Sometimes the phone calls are really tough. Again be very positive and encouraging. Please let me know how she is doing and how you are doing.
Michael, Have you heard from Stephanie, yet? I feel like I am having a preview of what I will go through by hearing your experience. The recruiter told me that the first phone call will really only be long enough to give us his address, so I wonder if we get much info on their experience so far. Have you considered a journal? Something that lets you express anything and everything you are feeling. No one will see it, so you can be 100% honest. When I have trouble with something, I do this and I find I can sleep better knowing that it is all on paper and I can come back to it later. Keeps me from thinking about it all night. Lesa
I am so glad she got to call you. It must have been such a thrill to hear her voice. So you have made it about a week already, not bad...she'll be out before you know it and you will get to give her a big graduation hug!
210-671-2556 Is the number to the Inns at Lackland. I have called there twice and they said anyone can reserve a room. They said to call 2 weeks before you need to be there to reserve a room. Which is April 9th.
Michael, Thank you for welcoming me to the site. Graduation weekend was one of the most remarkable weekends I have spend in my life!! From the moment I saw my Michael first at the Airman's Run until we left him on Tuesday nite are memories that I will hold dear for the rest of my life. I am also a member on another site that gave wonderful tips for graduation weekend. bmtgrad.com. I found wonderful advice there and can help you if you like with any of your plans. Michael is in Security Forces Tech School now and that is at Lackland. We stayed off base Wed-Sat nite at the Comfort Suites by Seaworld (only a 10 minute drive to the base). However, Sunday nite we moved to the Gateway Inn on base. We were able to see Michael at the BX Monday and Tuesday nites after class. If I had to do it all over again I would definitely stay at at Gateway Inn for the weekend.
I know you are missing Stephanie alot now. I found that writing to Michael everyday really helped me. I just found simple things to say (not too serious). He sent 127 letters home when I left San Antonio. He loved getting letters from everyone at home!
Once you start planning your trip to Graduation the time will speed by. Let me know if I can help you in any way.
Michael took his cell phone with him to Basic Training. It was locked up when he arrived and he got it back on Friday morning before graduation! We took his laptop down with us and he was able to use it right away at Tech School. How are you doing?
